Second-to-Last Review

This will be my final week as an intern for this company. So, on 13th October, I showcased the improved mobile layout, as well as the replaced images. Dr. Shawn was content with my work, but expressed that the tablet layout still looks improper. He also said that he prefers more real photographs than stock images. So, I noted those down as my tasks for the week before my internship ends.

Final Touches

I tried to fix the layout by editing the page itself and added some padding on the top and bottom of the paragraphs. However, that technique didn’t work, as it also affected the image itself—leaving noticeable white blanks. So, I thought of using some customized code to ensure that the images always had a minimum height, and properly filled its section.

.wp-block-media-text.custom-media-text {
min-height: 25rem;
}

.wp-block-media-text.custom-media-text .wp-block-media-text__media img {
height: 100%;
object-fit: cover;
}

Then, I added this class to all the ‘Media & Texts’ blocks for the homepage’s internal links.

I also edited the links themselves, as some of them had slugs like ‘flexible-3’ instead of just ‘flexible’. As for the images, I added a new one to replace an unconvincing stock photo. Then, I swapped some of them around to better fit their sections.

Last Review

16th October was when Dr. Shawn held his final meeting with me. I showed him all the changes I had made, and he was satisfied with him. He gave me his honest thoughts on the project’s results, and I agreed with his opinions on it.

Reflection

There are a lot of things I wish I could’ve done differently to create a more impressive website. However, I was intimidated with a lot of WordPress’ features, especially when it came to deleting and downloading new plugins. Now, though, I have much more confidence in using WordPress, and I can now navigate through this tool without feeling as if I’m going to break something.

I appreciate all the guidance and advice Dr. Shawn has given me during my industrial training, even when I didn’t expect to get this position such as this in the first place. All of the newly-learned skills I have learnt will not only be helpful in my just my academics or future practical work, but in other aspects of my life as well. I improved my constructive stress tolerance, learnt to manage my time better, and got to use a lot of unfamiliar tools and websites that I’ve never heard of before.

Farewell! Good luck to Liang Yao—and every future interns!
