Weekly Review

On the 5th of October, I had my weekly review with Dr. Shawn, where I showed him my current progress with the Sayembara website. He was satisfied with the new descriptions I provided for each feature—safe for a few adjustments that I could make if I have the time to do so. However, he assured me that the most important that I need to do to complete the project before my internship ends is to finalize the mobile layout, and to select some more suitable pictures from the two Facebook accounts he provided to me. He also noted that I should the image and its paired text should be arranged vertically—not horizontally—for the mobile layout. I was already planning to finalize the mobile layout this week, I got on to doing that.

Challenges with Using WordPress

The limitations on WordPress did make it a bit harder for me to properly adjust the padding and margins for some of the elements to ensure visual consistency. Not only that, but the way the site looks in the editor compared to the actual site itself has some differences, so I often had to save and preview the page to make sure that it looked visually sound.

Even with all of the problems I had encountered, however, I successfully finalized the mobile layout for all six webpages. I even tested how it would look like on my phone, and it looks serviceable! I also added the suggestion of making the disclaimer at the bottom of the website less noticeable.

A Farewell Lunch

Dr. Shawn decided to schedule a lunch together as a sign of farewell before I ended my internship. We went to Ichiban Ramen at AEON Maluri—and it was quite delicious! He signed all the necessary paperwork needed for my university, we ate our respective meals, and had a nice, informative chat together.

Reflection

Dr. Shawn’s comments on how the layout could be improved gave me an understanding that what could work for desktop screens might not necessarily work for mobile screens. This feedback made me learn regarding the importance of mobile-first design, prompting me to reconsider how information density and navigation patterns must adapt to smaller viewports to maintain an optimal experience for the website’s visitors.

Next Week’s Plans

I hope that I can finally replace the stock images with the one I’ve selected from the Facebook albums.
