Weekly Review
On 10th August, I had an online meeting with Dr. Shawn regarding the progress of my mockup website. He suggested that I should simplify further the information regarding the system’s flowchart on the main page to highlight the core message that we want to showcase to the potential visitors.
He pointed out that I could make it so that when a user clicks on a button underneath each section of a flowchart, it should take them to a page where it could further clarify what that feature of Sayembara does. This could be useful for visitors who are would like to read more on a specific feature.
Dr. Shawn also mentioned that I do not have to worry about using the images on the Facebook page that he shared with me, but did advise that I should use more images of older contestants, and remove any logos from said images.
A Celebratory Lunch
On that same Monday, I had lunch with Dr. Shawn, Liang Yao and Izatul. It was meant to be a farewell gesture for Izatul after completing her internship.
I had lots of fun chatting and getting to know the three of them better. And the food was certainly delicious!
Following Guidance
Throughout the week, I followed Dr. Shawn’s guidance by rewriting the information displayed on the main page to make it less wordy, found some more suitable images for the ‘credentials’ part of the main page, and started to work on the pages needed for each feature.
Reflection
Dr. Shawn’s advice was quite insightful for me, as someone who doesn’t mind reading through a lot of text to know about any sort of product. This made me realize that I should take into consideration of other user’s preferences, as what we may be okay with might not be preferable to another.
Next Week’s Plans
Hopefully, by next week, I can finish the main page, and then complete the supplementary pages for the features.
