Feature Improvements
As we moved into Week 3, we continued resolving issues and improving features in the repository. One improvement involved updating the mark band for each event. Previously, the mark band could not be edited through the event edit form. To solve this, we created a <Box> component containing three <NumberInput> fields, allowing administrators to edit the gold, silver, and bronze marks for each event.
We also improved how participant progress for each event is displayed on the dashboard. The previous version only displayed the number of completed participants compared with the total number of participants, which did not provide enough information. We reused the design from the participant status card, allowing administrators to clearly understand the participant progress and status for every event from the dashboard.
Finally, this week, we successfully added venue information to every assigned event shown on the role pages. This is especially helpful when the same event is held at different venues. By displaying the venue clearly, administrators can easily distinguish between the assigned events and avoid confusion.
A Memorable Welcome Lunch
Another memorable moment this week was the welcome lunch we had on Monday with Dr. Shawn and two other interns. I had a wonderful time with them, and we talked about many interesting topics, from the best countries to live in to Dr. Shawn’s memorable life stories. I would love to hear more stories from him because they are truly eye-opening. Overall, It was a very enjoyable and memorable lunch.
Experience as a Technical Assistant
Another meaningful experience this week was handling an event on my own for the first time as a technical assistant. Everything went smoothly overall, but I made a small mistake while assigning roles in the system. I accidentally assigned the same role, “Judge 1,” to two different judges. As a result, the system treated their scores as if they came from only one judge. Fortunately, I noticed the mistake early and checked the role assignments again before it affected many participants’ scores. This experience taught me to be more careful, and I will always double-check every role assignment in future events.
Next week’s Plan
For next week, I plan to investigate an interesting bug that prevents the login page from appearing when a user tries to log in for the first time. I will look into what is causing the problem and work on a solution. Besides that, I will begin working on the website’s settings page by following the details provided in the GitHub issue.
