1st Week;

My first week as an intern at AESTE Works (M) Sdn. Bhd. started with a mix of excitement and nervousness. Since this is a hybrid internship, my journey began with a welcome video call with Dr. Shawn. During the session, he introduced me to the company’s workflow and explained the tasks I would be working on throughout the week. It was a great way to understand what was expected from me and how I would contribute during my internship.

Task;

For my first week’s deliverables, I was assigned to complete tutorials on GitHub and Flutter. The GitHub tutorial helped me strengthen my understanding of version control, including managing repositories, commits, and branches. After that, I continued with the Flutter tutorial, which refreshed my knowledge of Flutter development and widget structures. Even though I had some experience with Flutter before, revisiting these concepts helped me align my practices with the development workflow used by the company.

Challenges & Overcome;

One challenge I faced was adapting to the specific GitHub workflow used in the tutorial. Although I was familiar with the basics, managing branches and ensuring proper commit practices required careful attention. To overcome this, I practiced the commands several times and documented important steps so I could easily refer to them later. This helped me become more confident in using GitHub for collaborative development.

Live Event;

Towards the end of the week, I had the opportunity to travel to Kota Kinabalu to assist in a live competition event as a technical assistant. My role included helping with the system setup and checking that the competition system was properly aligned with the database. We had to double-check everything before the event started to ensure the system worked smoothly for the jury, emcee, and ushers. This experience taught me how important preparation are in ensuring that technical systems run smoothly during live events.

Through this experience, I learned that punctuality is extremely important when working with live systems. Arriving early and preparing the system ahead of time ensures that everything is ready for the event to start on schedule. I also realized the importance of staying in the room during the event to quickly assist if any technical issues occur.

Overall, my first week was a valuable learning experience. From strengthening my technical skills to assisting in a real event environment, I gained insights that I believe will be very helpful as I continue my internship journey.

Next week, I will begin working on several tasks related to the competition management system:

  • Start working on the issues that have been assigned to me.
  • Begin with the easier tasks as advised by Dr.Shawn to better understand the system structure.
  • Review the existing system workflow and features.
  • Conduct research on possible improvements for the upgraded version of the application.
  • Take notes and document ideas that could contribute to future system development.
