Homepage got a glow-up this week, feedback in hand, while work on the other Sayembara pages began. It was a mix of experimenting, learning, and figuring out how to explain technical stuff in plain, non-confusing language.

Tweaks and Improvements

The week started with applying some suggestions from Dr. Shawn on the first draft of the homepage. Elementor was removed because it was a bit tricky to work with, and the overall colour scheme got a bold refresh, moving from light pastel blue to a stronger dark navy blue. It already feels more striking and professional!

Planning the Other Pages

Next up: planning the other pages. Rough sketches helped map out how everything should flow before jumping into WordPress. The About Us section got its first draft, and then it was time to tackle the Systems page.

I tried making mockups and “fake” UI screenshots to make complex features easy to understand. Spoiler: I ran out of ideas halfway through, so next week will be a little inspiration hunt by browsing other websites.

Fun and Challenges

Designing this site has been a lot of fun, but it’s definitely a workout for the brain. Explaining technical features to non-technical users feels like trying to translate alien language into plain English. Some days are a bit messy, but every tweak makes the website a little more understandable, and a little more satisfying.

Reflections & Insights

  • Bold colours and clear layouts make a site feel alive.
  • Simplifying technical stuff takes patience and creativity.
  • Experimenting is messy, but also the most fun part of building.

What’s Next

Next week will focus on completing the first draft of the full website. Hopefully, all the pages will come together and I can get feedback from Dr. Shawn. Fingers crossed! :3
