This week focused on taking the website planning from previous weeks and slowly turning it into something more tangible. Instead of just outlines and ideas, the work shifted toward actual layout and visual structure, starting with the Sayembara homepage.

From Structure to Homepage

Based on earlier findings and planning, a clear website structure was finalised, beginning with the homepage. The Astra theme was set up, and work started on the landing page layout.

The initial homepage draft includes:

  • a hero section to introduce Sayembara clearly
  • a system overview to explain what the platform offers
  • key benefits to highlight its value
  • a short “How Sayembara Works” section to show the overall flow

The main goal was to keep everything simple, visual, and easy to understand, especially for non-technical users and event organisers.

Exploring Layout and Visual Direction

This week also involved experimenting with the overall layout, colour choices, and typography for the website. The content on the homepage was built based on the approved website outline, ensuring that each section clearly communicates its purpose while keeping the design clean and easy to understand.

Visual elements and simple mockups were added to support the explanations, especially for the different systems, while leaving room for refinement later if needed. The focus at this stage was to get the structure and flow right rather than perfecting every detail.

The homepage is now completed and ready for review and feedback before proceeding with the other pages.

While waiting for feedback, additional mockups and visuals were designed for other pages. These visuals are meant to help future pages feel more consistent and make complex systems easier to explain visually.

Reflections & Insights

  • Moving from planning to actual design makes the project feel more real.
  • Simple layouts often communicate ideas more clearly than complex ones.
  • Using placeholders helps maintain momentum without waiting for perfect content.

What’s Next

After receiving feedback on the homepage, the next step will be refining the design and continuing with the remaining pages using the same structure and visual direction.
